Visitation Tablet for the Letters of Unity [martyred Letters of the Living]
In the Name of God, the Most Unapproachable, the Most Holy
Then if, on that Day—on the Day of Friday—thou shouldst stand before Him Whom God shall make manifest, blessed art thou! For He shall suffice thee in lieu of visiting the Letters of the Unity and from performing every work of righteousness. Yet though all are capable of attaining unto this, they shall deprive themselves of that supreme bounty and that most great attainment. Though they were to expend all that is upon the earth, it would not equal in recompense the weight of a single atom thereof, did they but know.
Before thou attainest unto it, though all the Most Beautiful Names of God and all His Supreme Attributes be made manifest, none shall be able to encompass them all. But if thou attain unto the seats of the One, thou shalt have attained them all; for all have been guided by His guidance at the dawn of that Manifestation.
Even so, watch thou for the Day of Resurrection, that perchance on that Day thou mayest believe in those who shall convey the messages of Him Whom God shall make manifest—these are the Messengers of God, in Whom ye shall believe. Verily, the splendour is from God upon you, O ye first Letters, from the highest Kingdom unto the lowest atom, and upon all that is between them and beneath them, that which pleaseth God and that which surpasseth His good pleasure. For He, verily, is the Most High, the Most Exalted.
How, then, shall I make mention of you, when the decree hath been decreed and the command established? This is a thing before which the heavens well-nigh burst, the earth is rent, and the mountains crumble to dust. How could I refrain from weeping for you, or from yearning in the path of your extinction, until I attain unto the Day of Resurrection—haply God will converse with Me of your return? There shall My sorrow be stilled; for on that Day I shall surely behold you upon your bodies, free from grief, while creation itself shall stand abashed, yet shall neither the First nor yourselves grieve.
But God hath promised, in truth, that He shall cause you to behold Him Whom God shall make manifest, and He shall cause Him to behold you. He shall raise you up from your resting-places and fulfil unto you that which ye endured in My path aforetime, until He bestow upon you that wherewith ye shall be well-pleased—and even more than that wherewith ye shall be well-pleased. And the like shall be the portion of those who were with you, the former and the latter alike; for He, verily, is the Bestower, the Mighty, the Inaccessible.
Great indeed hath been your calamity, tremendous your affliction, and mighty that which befell your courts! Ye were the first; by your guidance were all guided. Ye shall be the last; by your latter days shall all believe. Ye are the manifest; by your manifestation do all appear. Ye are the hidden; by your hiddenness are all concealed.
From the first moment that the knowledge of God encompassed what befell you, eyes have wept for you and hearts have been wounded for your sakes—until that first hour when God shall raise you up on the Day of Resurrection from the couches of your souls, through the uprising of His Chosen One. There shall ye and they who love you find rest.
Before that hour, none can reckon how many hearts have yearned toward you, how many spirits have been lifted up unto you, how many souls have entered into you, how many bodies have sought repose beside you, how many feet have traversed the path of your love, how many possessions have been spent for your good-pleasure, how many eyes have shed tears in remembrance of your sufferings!
It is as though I hear, at that time, the voices of the angels of the cloud—the cherubim, the exalted ones, the sanctifiers, the glorifiers, the magnifiers, and the extollers—descending upon your courts with a majesty such that, were ye yourselves to desire to rise from your dust, ye would find no power to do so, restrained as ye are by the command of God and the majesty of His might.
Upon you and upon those who are with you at every moment be from the Beauty of God the most resplendent thereof, from the Glory of God the most majestic thereof, from the Comeliness of God the most perfect thereof, from the Grandeur of God the most exalted thereof, from the Light of God the most luminous thereof, from the Mercy of God the most expansive thereof, from the Words of God the most complete thereof, from the Names of God the most mighty thereof, from the Might of God the most glorious thereof, from the Will of God the most effectual thereof, from the Knowledge of God the most penetrating thereof, from the Power of God the most prevailing thereof, from the Bounty of God the most beloved thereof, from the Honor of God the most exalted thereof, from the Dominion of God the most enduring thereof, from the Sovereignty of God the most illustrious thereof, from the Elevation of God the most high thereof, and from every good that thy Lord, the All-Bountiful, the Most Generous, loveth.
Then return thou, and take thy seat, and remember thy Lord with what thou lovest. And if thou be not on the Day of Resurrection, know thou that from the first of that Manifestation until that hour all men shall visit the Letters of the Unity in the Qur’an and dwell within their sanctuaries, yet shall remain veiled from meeting their Lord.
Be not thou like them, lest thou be chastised for their deeds, and deprived of their reward. This is of the command of God—God counseleth thee therein, that perchance on the Day of Resurrection thou mayest be of those who are delivered.
Glorified art Thou, O my God and my Lord! Send down Thy blessings upon my parents, and upon the people of my love, and upon the people of my loyalty, among those who have been and those who shall be until the Day of Resurrection; and likewise upon those who have been martyred in Thy path, upon their mothers, their brethren, and their companions in love—for this is a bounty from Thee, for Thou, verily, art the Most Bountiful, the All-Generous.
