BB00665: Letter to Mirza Siyyid Hasan-i-Khurasani (from Bushihr)
In the name of God, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate
Read thou the Book of the Remembrance of the Name of thy Lord, then prostrate thyself before His decree; for, verily, there is no God but He, the Self-Sufficient, the All-Praised.
Verily, it is a Book sent down from the Remnant of God—an Imam, true and manifest. Verily, it is a Book wherein there is no doubt; its verses have been expounded, by God’s leave, from the presence of One exalted in might, all-wise. And verily, He is the Truth in the heavens and on the earth—He Who, with a tongue of straight justice, reciteth in every affair the Book of thy Lord.
And verily, He is the Mystery at the right hand of the Mount within the words of the Qur’an: “There is no God but I. Say: Him, therefore, fear ye.” And if all that is in the sea were ink for the verses of thy Lord, none could alter His wisdom; nay, the sea would be spent ere the Light of a single Light from among Our signs were made manifest. And God, thy Lord, is indeed the All-Powerful, the All-Mighty.
Assuredly hath the decree of the Remnant of God reached all who are upon the earth, and God, thy Lord, is verily the All-Powerful, the All-Knowing. There is no God but He, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing; there is no God but He, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise. Those who followed Our signs aforetime—these are the rightly guided. But those who have followed their vain desires—naught of their deeds shall be accepted; these, indeed, are the lost. And whoso hath hearkened to the decree of the New (al-Badi’)—naught of his works shall be recorded for him unless he believe in the signs of thy Lord and be of the ones assured.
What aileth this people that they perceive not aught of the signs of God? Verily, such are the wrongdoers. We had, aforetime, sent down a Book from Our presence, containing clear signs, for a people who hearken. Yet We found not most men to be believers in Our signs—nay, We beheld them associating partners with God in the signs of God.
We have heard to-day that thou art in doubt concerning My Cause. Fear God, and follow not thine own desire; for the Cause of God is the Truth—even as thou didst deem thy nearness to be nigh. Say: Doth the decree differ—whether He who hath come from God bringeth numbered signs, or he who bringeth but a single sign? Nay, by the Qur’an! We make no distinction between any of the Messengers of God, and unto Him we are resigned. Yet know thou of a certainty: a single sign which We have now sent down unto thee is, in the Book of God, equal to the signs of the Prophets; and after all creation, the proofs of God shall indeed be called to account.
Fear God; ask forgiveness for thy sin; and follow the decree of God in the New, that thou mayest be of the victors—it is written. We, verily, know the ordinance thou hast framed in the science of usul. Put thy trust in God; efface all the books; and take this bestowal—the Remembrance of the Name of thy Lord—and be of the thankful. This, indeed, is the supreme triumph.
Safeguard whatsoever hath flowed from My hand: inscribe it upon gilded leaves, with the ink of gold, by the decree of thy Lord, that thou mayest be of the witnesses. Know, moreover, that the decree of a single letter from among Our signs is not equalled by the kingdoms of the next world and of this—by the ordinance of thy Lord in the Book—for it is a sending-down from a noble Imam. None encompasseth His knowledge save whom He willeth; He, verily, is the Self-Sufficient, the All-Praised. He is naught but a servant of God—an Imam from God, the Lord of the worlds. Follow, then, the Remembrance of the Name of thy Lord, the Most High, the Most Great; and fear God in this matter—yea, in this matter. By My life! were ye to know, it is a mighty, a mighty thing.
Lo, the ordinance of this Ocean is beauteous—beauteous; and it is deep—deep. The decree of this Path is delicate—delicate. And if men should desire to know a single sign of the New, they would not be able—even as they have not been able to produce the like thereof. And God is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
I counsel thee, by the decree of God, in the knowledge of Destiny (qadar): to-day thou shalt find no escape from what God permitteth. Unto Us is the final resort in the decree of God, in a knowledge concealed; and this, verily, is the secret, hidden in the Mother Book. Enter thou the Gate of Justice with humility and repentance, that thou mayest be of those who prostrate.
This Book is a proof for those upon that land and for those around it—from the Remnant of God, an Imam of manifest justice. Convey this Book to the divines of equity, for the proof of God is conclusive against all mankind. And upon everyone who hath believed in the signs of thy Lord it is incumbent to go forth from his home, emigrating unto the Land of the Remembrance, in loyalty to the Covenant of the Remnant of God—an Imam true, forbearing.
This is the decree of God: whomsoever willeth to believe—We have willed for him, in truth; and whomsoever willeth to deny—the proof is fulfilled against him; and thy Lord is indeed the Self-Sufficient, the All-Praised. We have, indeed, sent down a Book unto the divines [BB00091], that haply they may remember Our signs and be of the assured.
Read thou the Book to the Kings [BB00686] at the hand of the Messenger; for it is a true and noble Book. Write, after its manner, with the ink of gold; for it is a Book of might, well-guarded. And if thou be not in fear of the ordinance of the land, convey the decree of God unto whomsoever cometh unto thee, and fear none in the paths of thy Lord; for the decree of God is the Truth, and on that Day shall all be presented before Us.
Upon everyone who hath believed in Our signs it is incumbent to efface all that the people have written—save some of the verses of the two Gates of former times—ere the decree of the New; and this is a just decree from the presence of a Living, Most Great Imam—He in Whose hand is the ordinance of all things; from His knowledge not a thing escapeth; and He is, in truth, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.
Bear the books unto the Holy Land; then cast them into the Euphrates, that the hearts of the believers may be made steadfast against the multitude, and that they may indeed be of the humble. Depart not from that land of thine own self until there descend for thee from Us a wondrous leave.
Convey the greeting of the Remembrance of the Name of thy Lord unto the foremost; for the matter hath been decreed, and all, in the gathering of the Wondrous, shall be raised up. Glorified be God, thy Lord, the Lord of might, far exalted above that which they ascribe unto Him. And peace be upon the Messengers.
