BB00189: Du’a’ ’ala’n-Nafyi’n-Nafy (prayer for the negation of negation)

In the Name of God, the Most Unapproachable, the Most Holy

Glorified art Thou, O my God! I bear Thee witness—and all things bear Thee witness—that Thou art God: there is none other God but Thee, One, without partner. Thine is the dominion of mulk and malakut; Thine the might of ʿizzat and jabarut; Thine the potency and lahut; Thine the power and the radiant ruby-glory; Thine are the Most Beautiful Names and the similitudes that point to none save Thee. Thou givest life and causest to die, then Thou causest to die and givest life again; and verily Thou art the Living Who dieth not. Within Thy grasp is the kingdom of all things; by Thy command Thou bringest into being whatsoever Thou willest. Thou, in truth, hast ever been powerful over all things.

Hallowed art Thou, O my God! I beseech Thee by Thy Primality—whereby Thou art supreme above all things—that Thou annihilate every identity of alif that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou willest; for Thou art, in very truth, potent over all things.

O God! I entreat Thee by Thy Loftiness—manifest above all things—that Thou efface every identity of ba’ that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou willest; verily, Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Omnipotence—transcendent above all things—that Thou blot out every identity of jim that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou willest; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Ever-abidingness—unassailable above all things—that Thou efface every identity of dal that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou willest; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Guidance—uplifted above all things—that Thou annihilate every identity of ha’ that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for, verily, Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Guardianship—whereby Thou standest over all things—that Thou… (grant the same) by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Sowing and Nurturing—exalted above all things—that Thou annihilate every identity of za’ that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Life—immutable above all things—that Thou efface every identity of ha’ that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Purity—sublime above all things—that Thou annihilate every identity of ta’ that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Certitude—which pierceth the hearts of Thy loved ones—that Thou efface every identity of ya’ that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Majesty—manifest over all things—that Thou annihilate every identity of kaf that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Subtlety—uplifted above all things—that Thou efface every identity of lam that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Sovereignty—prevailing over all things—that Thou annihilate every identity of mim that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Luminosity—exalted above all things—that Thou efface every identity of nun that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Holiness—sanctified above all things—that Thou annihilate every identity of sin that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Exaltation—high above all things—that Thou efface every identity of ʿayn that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Oneness—solitary above all things—that Thou annihilate every identity of fa’ that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Self-Sufficiency—invincible above all things—that Thou efface every identity of sad that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Strength—over-mastering all things—that Thou annihilate every identity of qaf that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Mercy—enrobing all things—that Thou efface every identity of ra’ that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Witnessing—witness above every thing unto every thing—that Thou annihilate every identity of shin that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy All-Returning grace—august above all things—that Thou efface every identity of ta’ that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Steadfastness—prevalent over all things—that Thou annihilate every identity of tha’ that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Creative Power—manifest above all things—that Thou efface every identity of kha’ that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Fashioning—uplifted above all things—that Thou annihilate every identity of dhal that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Guarantee—unassailable above all things—that Thou efface every identity of dad that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Manifestness—sublime above all things—that Thou annihilate every identity of za’ that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

O God! I beseech Thee by Thy Predominance—prevailing over all things—that Thou efface every identity of ghayn that is ascribed to the Tree of Negation, by Thy power over whatsoever Thou wilt; for Thou art powerful over all things.

Glorified art Thou, O my God! I ask Thee thus in Negation because, thereafter, naught remaineth to it; for the Names, apart from Thy loved ones, are not void of these letters, and whatsoever is ascribed unto them is not severed therefrom. Therefore do I implore Thee, by Thy power which hath left nothing to him who boweth not down before Thee—for everything is related to these letters—that Thou annihilate, from all who refuse to prostrate themselves before Thee, every identity composed of letters attributed to aught beside Thee.

Manifest then, O my God, the station of this supplication; exalt, O my God, him who calleth upon Thee with this praise; and honour, O my God, whoso annihilateth Negation according to this decree in the very act of effacement. For whoso is unable to efface Negation by aught but these words—this is the most exalted of paths for affirming Thy unity: the negation of negation from the court of Thy holiness, from the seat of Thy might, from the sovereignty of Thy self-subsistence and the kingship of Thy Lordship.

Wherefore will I praise Thee, O my God, unto the furthest… for that Thou hast enabled me thus to exalt Thy unity, to magnify Thy holiness, to proclaim Thy glorification, and to uplift Thy unicity. There is no power nor strength save in Thee; unto Thee is the return. And send Thou Thy blessings upon the Letters of the First (the Letters of the Living) at every moment—before time and after time.
