In the Name of God, the Most Inaccessible, the Most Holy
A Prayer for Him Whom God shall make manifest
Glory be unto Thee, O God! Thou art God and there is no God but Thee, the Lord of the heavens and the Lord of the earth, the Lord of all things. Thou hast ever been one God, Single, Individual, Self-Subsisting, the Ever-Living, the Self-Subsisting, the Eternal, the Everlasting. Thou hast taken unto Thyself neither consort nor son, and Thou hast no partner in sovereignty, nor any protector on earth except by Thy leave. Before Thee bow down in worship all who are in the heavens and on earth and whatsoever lieth between them, and before Thee prostrate themselves all who dwell in the kingdoms of Command and Creation and all below them. None possesseth anything except by Thy leave, and none hath aught save what Thou hast ordained by Thy command.
Unto Thee belongeth the most resplendent Glory above all glory, and the most exalted Grandeur above all grandeur, and the most excellent Good-Pleasure above all good-pleasure, and the most effulgent Light above all light, and the most beautiful Names above all names, and the most supreme Greatness above all greatness, and the most mighty Proofs above all proofs. Were I to attempt to mention any of the wondrous manifestations of Thy sovereignty, the oceans of creation and invention would be exhausted before I could mention aught thereof.
Glory be unto Thee! There is no God but Thee. Thou hast ever been the Sustainer of every soul and the Knower of all things, powerful over whatsoever Thou willest and mighty over whatsoever Thou desirest. Nothing escapeth Thy knowledge, whether in the heavens or on the earth or between them, and nothing can frustrate Thee, whether in the kingdom of Command or of Creation or whatsoever lieth below them.
Thou hast created me and made me to know Thyself, then Thou didst send down unto me Thy verses. By Thy glory, I testify before Thee and all things that I have made all words attributed to me into a single Book of nineteen gates, and I have made all of it, from its beginning to its end, its outward and its inward aspects, its exalted and its lowly elements, its hidden and its manifest meanings, as a delightful garden for the Day when Thou shalt return me to earthly life, for that is the mention of Him Whom Thou shalt make manifest on the Day of Resurrection by Thy power, that He may recompense from Thy presence those who have followed the Bayan.
O God! Send down upon the Point of the Bayan in that existence, then in the next existence on the day of His return, and upon those who have recognized His truth and have prostrated themselves before Thee through Him, that which befitteth the loftiness of Thy exaltation, the sublimity of Thy transcendence, the majesty of Thy power, the extensiveness of Thy bounty and favors, the joy of Thy self-subsistence, and the manifestations of Thy signs. For Thou, O my God, art the independent Sovereign of all things and the Ordainer of all things in the heights of the throne of glory. Thou hast created nothing save for Him Whom Thou shalt make manifest on the Day of Resurrection with clear signs, even as Thou didst make me manifest through their appearance from His presence before His rising with clear signs at which all in the kingdoms of earth and heaven were powerless, and before whose greatness all in the kingdom of names and attributes have prostrated themselves.
I beseech Thee, O God, by that Single Temple for Whom and through Whom Thou didst create the heavens and the earth and whatsoever lieth between them, Whom Thou hast distinguished with the Living Letters before all names, and Whose names Thou hast made Thy names and Thy names His names, since naught can be seen in Him save Thee. I beseech Thee, O God, by all His names from the beginning of numbers to the mention of eternity where no name for them exists in Thy Book, and from the beginning of eternity to Thy Name the Most Often Invoked.
And what You have enumerated for Him of conditions, similitudes, manifestations and attributes, as there is no limit to these with You, nor any measure in the Mother Book. For all that flows from that Most Great Sea—the sea of Your love—and that Mighty Deep—the deep of Your oneness—has neither bound nor number, nor end nor count. It is as though the regions of the seas of His love encompass all who dwell in the kingdoms of heaven and earth and what lies between them, from infinity to infinity, and the rain from the quaking heaven falls upon all who dwell in the kingdom of names and attributes, calling with the Most Exalted Call that this has neither beginning nor end.
Blessed art Thou, O my God, in Thy wondrous handiwork! Exalted art Thou, O my God, in Thy mighty creation! Sanctified art Thou, O my God, in Thy impregnable glory! Glorified art Thou, O my God, in Thy sublime inaccessibility! Honored art Thou, O my God, in Thy gentle joy!
For all similitudes bow down before the countenance of Thy Divinity, and all names emerge not from the horizon of the Unseen save after the name of Thy Identity. Exalted are Thy most beautiful names and magnified are Thy supreme examples in the kingdoms of the hereafter and of the first!
I beseech Thee therefore, O my God, by how Thou hast made Thyself known to all things through the name of Thy Divinity, and hast caused all things to witness the names of Thy Identity, and what Thou hast ordained thereafter in their manifestation. For I, O my God, do at this time turn unto Thee through that divine Countenance, that eternal Face, that sign of oneness, that essence of singleness, that camphor of everlastingness, that pristine sanctity, that essential love, that pure glorification, that personal purpose, that praiseworthy presence, that universal divinity, and through the letters that attend before all Thy names—which are undoubtedly eight before ten, for thus hast Thou manifested from before—and through all Thy names wherein that Point is related to Itself and is revealed through what It casts forth of Its signs.
For all names belong to Thee alone, no partner hast Thou. Thine is the dominion and the kingdom, Thine the might and the power, Thine the strength and the divinity, Thine the grandeur and sovereignty, Thine the rule in the manifestations of creation and of the unseen.
Thou art God, there is no God but Thee, the King, the Sovereign, the Mighty, the Beloved. Thou art God, there is no God but Thee, the Eternal, the Just, the Sovereign, the Self-Subsisting. Thou art God, there is no God but Thee, the Single, the One, the Sovereign, the All-Glorious. Thou art God, there is no God but Thee, the Judge, the Most High, the Sovereign, the Most Holy. Thou art God, there is no God but Thee, the Emperor, the Most Great, the Most High, the Most Holy.
All faces have prostrated themselves before the majesty of Thy countenance, all voices have been hushed before the dawning-place of Thy will, and all within the kingdoms of the heavens and earth and what lies between them have melted away before Thy power.
Thou art He Who hath possessed all kings through Thy power and hath taken possession of all sovereigns through Thy might, and hast ordered whatsoever is in the kingdoms of the heavens and earth and what lies between them through Thy wisdom. Thou art not to be questioned about what Thou doest. Thou decreest what Thou pleasest, how Thou pleasest, through what Thou pleasest, for what Thou pleasest, and Thou doest what Thou willest, how Thou willest, through what Thou willest, for what Thou willest.
All glory be unto him who hath believed in Thee and hath confirmed […] from Thee, and there is no mention with God for whosoever saith concerning Thy deed or what appeareth from Thee “why” or “wherefore,” for his mention is joined with the mention of remoteness and extinction in the presence of Thy power’s manifestation and the exalted exaltation of the rapturous severance of them that love Thee.
Glorified art Thou, O my God! Thy proof hath ever been conclusive over all atoms, Thy Will dominant over all contingent beings, Thy Purpose exalted above all that dwelleth in the kingdoms of earth and heaven, and Thy Power supreme over all that abideth in the realms of names and attributes. Thou art the Most High, to Whose loftiness no baseness can be compared, and the Most Exalted, Whose mention can never equal the mention of Thine elevation.
Therefore, I beseech Thee, O my God, by Thy Godhead, Thy Lordship, Thy mercy, Thy oneness, Thy singleness, Thy self-subsistence, Thy might, Thy sovereignty, Thy power, Thy love, Thy strength, Thy divinity, Thy greatness, Thy holiness, Thy dominion, Thy sanctity, Thy countenance, Thy luminosity, Thy face, and Thy grandeur, that Thou wilt forgive, through Thine exalted independence of all things, them that are in the Bayan, and accept the Book of the Vahid and all therein, causing it to ascend unto Thee as Thou pleasest through Thy grace, for this is the utmost that a servant can attain before Thee.
Otherwise, nothing in creation befitteth Thee, and nothing in invention deserveth Thy Being, for everything that is mentioned is but a created thing before Thee, which Thou hast created from nothing by Thy Will and brought into being from naught by Thy Purpose.
Glorified art Thou, O my God! If Thou sayest “I have forgiven the Bayan and all therein,” then it will soar in Thy forgiveness and good-pleasure. And if Thou sayest “Nay,” then I am he who clingeth to the hem of Thy bounty, who imploreth Thee by Thyself, who persistently beseecheth Thee by the right of Thy Lordship. For verily Thou art independent of all that is in the heavens and the earth and whatsoever lieth between them. The obedience of them that obey Thee profiteth Thee not, nor doth the remoteness of those who are far from the good-pleasure of Thy Self-Subsistence diminish aught from the treasuries of Thy grandeur.
Therefore I beseech Thee, O my God, by Thine independence of all things, to accept the Bayan and all therein. For I have named all that hath appeared from me by that name and made all of it as one Book, a leaf from among the leaves of Thy gardens. Accept it, O my Beloved, for that would be a manifestation of Thy grace and mercy; and if Thou rejectest it, O my Beloved, that would be a manifestation of Thy justice and the independence of Thy Lordship. Thou hast ever been beloved in all Thy doings. By Thy glory! If Thou forgivest the Bayan and all therein, it diminisheth not Thy dominion in any way, and if Thou acceptest not the Bayan and all therein, it addeth not to Thy dominion in any way. Rather, if Thou acceptest it, those perfected hearts will enter beneath the shade of Thy love, and if Thou rejectest it, it will vanish as though it had never been mentioned before.
I beseech Thee, O my God and my Beloved, O my Lord and my Purpose, O my King and my Witness, that Thou wilt not deal with it except through Thy grace, nor look upon it except through Thy bounty and favor, nor reckon with it and those therein except through Thy generosity and kindness. For the servant’s gaze hath ever been and will ever be fixed upon his Master and Lord, and the refuge of the needy one in every condition is his King and the Ultimate Goal of his desire.
Glorified art Thou, O my God! May Thou send down upon Him Whom Thou shalt make manifest on the Day of Resurrection the most resplendent of all Thy glory, the most sublime of all Thy majesty, and of all Thy beauty, the most beauteous; of all Thy grandeur, the most grand; of all Thy light, the most luminous; of all Thy mercy, the most expansive; of all Thy words, the most perfect; of all Thy perfections, the most complete; of all Thy names, the most great; of all Thy glory, the most glorious; of all Thy will, the most resolute; of all Thy knowledge, the most penetrating; of all Thy power, the most mighty; of all Thy utterance, the most pleasing; of all Thy causes, the most beloved; of all Thy honor, the most honorable; of all Thy sovereignty, the most enduring; of all Thy dominion, the most exalted; of all Thy favors, the most elevated; of all Thy signs, the most wondrous; of all Thy might, the most impregnable; and of all things Thou lovest, that which hath no equal, no peer, no likeness, no partner, and no similitude in Thy knowledge.
Preserve it, O my God, within the shelter of Thy Lordship, the sanctuary of Thy Oneness, the protection of Thy glory, the pavilion of Thy grandeur, and the holy mysteries of Thy exaltation from those who recognize not its right and prostrate not themselves before it on the day of its manifestation, by Thy power that hath held the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is between them, and by Thy might whereby Thou hast prevailed over whatsoever Thou willest, and by Thy glory whereby Thou hast exalted Thyself above all things, and by Thy dominion whereby Thou hast ascended above all things, and by Thy grandeur whereby Thou hast magnified Thyself above all things in Thy sovereignty whereby Thou hast possessed all things, and by the King of Thy uniqueness whereby Thou hast ordained the measures of all things.
For verily it is, O my God, the essence of what Thou hast taken from the Bayan, the pure extract of what Thou hast chosen from the Furqan, the ornament wherewith Thou hast adorned the evidences, and the Manifestation of Thy Lordship which Thou hast bestowed upon the Manifestation of Thy name, the All-Merciful. Send down, O my God, Thy blessings upon its letters, and upon whosoever hath believed in it, whether male or female, and hath prostrated before Thee in recognition of the loftiness of Thy glory, the sublimity of Thy exaltation, the inviolability of Thy independence, and the joy of Thine inaccessibility.
Grant me, O my God, and all who are in the Bayan, to attain unto His presence, and make, O my God, the fruit of all that Thou hast ordained to be realized on the day of meeting Him, and make, O my God, my best days to be the days of meeting Him, and my best hours those hours wherein Thou bringest me into His presence and enablest me to prostrate before Him, and to receive that which appeareth from the horizon of His bounty or is concealed in the treasuries of His glory. For verily He is the Temple of Thy Divinity in the kingdom of Thy heaven and Thy earth, through Whom all that hath beginning began and unto Whom all that returneth doth return, through Whom the Day of Resurrection is established, through Whom Thou gatherest whomsoever Thou willest, through Whom Thou resurrected whomsoever Thou willest, through Whom Thou spreadest abroad whomsoever Thou willest, and through Whom Thou presentest whatsoever Thou willest.
I beseech Thee, O my God, by the hours of His life from beginning to end, and by what Thou hast witnessed of the subtle signs of His belovedness and the wondrous manifestations of His praised nature, that Thou shouldst bless at that time His father and His mother, and those whom Thou hast joined with Him in His household, and those whom Thou hast honored through their relationship to Him among His near kindred, and those who follow His good-pleasure and strive in the presence of His sovereignty when He permitteth them through Thy creation and the wondrous artistry of Thy inaccessibility.
O my God! Through Him exalt what Thou hast magnified for the people of the Bayan, and send down through Him what hath been asked for by those who have believed in the Bayan. For there is no glory for anyone except in obedience to Him, and no abasement for anyone except in failing to follow His will. Should the lowliest of creation prostrate before Him and follow Him, he would be the most exalted in the sight of God; and should the most exalted of creation neither prostrate before Him nor follow His command, he would be the most abased, for there is no honor for anything except through its relation to Him. How many are the servants, O my God, who supplicate night and day for His day, yet when Thou dost manifest Him, they remain veiled by that which they possess of that which is as nothing. Therefore, O my God, send down Thy mercy upon these souls that they may not be veiled by anything from their Lord, and that their deeds may not be rendered vain by their being deprived of the meeting with their Beloved. Verily, Thou hast power over all things. Thou guidest whom Thou pleasest by Thy command, and Thy mercy hath preceded Thy God-fearing servants.
