BB00231: Du’a’al-Avval fi Ardi’l’A’la, lil-Murtada
Thou art sufficient unto me. In Thee do I place my trust, and in Thee let Thy believing servants place their trust. There is no power nor strength save in God, the Most High, the Most Great.
Prayer of the Dawning-Place in the Land of the Most High by Murtada
In the Name of God, the Most Impregnable, the Most Holy!
Glorified art Thou, O my God! I testify, and all things testify, that Thou art God and there is no God but Thee, alone with no partner. Thine is the kingdom and the dominion, Thine the might and the power, Thine the strength and the divinity, Thine the force and sovereignty, Thine the grandeur and the glory, Thine the countenance and the beauty, Thine the face and the perfection, Thine the greatness and independence, Thine the loftiness and majesty, Thine the greatness and pride, Thine the proofs and examples, Thine the power and deeds, Thine the might and exaltation, Thine the force and elevation, Thine the joy and gladness, Thine the authority and detachment from all Thy servants, and Thine is whatsoever Thou hast loved or lovest of what Thou hast created or wilt create. All belongeth unto Thee alone. There is no God but Thee. Thou hast ever given life and caused death, then caused death and given life, and verily Thou art the Ever-Living Who dieth not, the King Who passeth not away, the Just Who wrongeth not, the Sovereign Who changeth not, the One from Whose grasp nothing escapeth, whether in the heavens or on the earth or between them. Thou createst what Thou willest by Thy command. Verily, Thou art powerful over all things.
Hallowed be Thy name, O my God, and exalted be Thy similitudes, O my Beloved! Thou hast ever been one God, Single, Eternal, Self-Subsisting, Living, Self-Sufficient, Wise, Just, Holy, Transcendent, Inaccessible, Exalted, Trusted, Everlasting, Eternal. Thou hast taken neither consort nor son, nor hath there been any partner in what Thou hast created, nor any protector in what Thou hast fashioned. Thou hast established all things by Thy Will and ordained the creation of all things by Thy Purpose. All must worship Thee in the heights of Thy Oneness, all must prostrate themselves before Thee in the summit of Thy Unity, all must testify to Thy Oneness in the inaccessibility of Thy Singleness, all must magnify Thee in the exaltation of Thy divine verses, and all must glorify Thee for what Thou art in the kingdom of Thy bountiful might.
Thou wert before all things, Thou art after all things, Thou art above all things, Thou art the Fashioner of all things, and Thou art distinguished by the essence of Thy Being above all things. The attributes are confounded in Thee, and the essences of all beings are manifest in the wonders of Thy handiwork. Thou art He Who hath no equal, no peer, no likeness, no companion, no similitude, and Thou art He Who begetteth not, nor wast Thou begotten, Who cannot be limited or described by any similitude.
Therefore, O God, send Thy blessings upon the Tree of Thy love—its root, its branch, its twigs, its leaves, and its fruits—through the glory of Thy most glorious Beauty, through Thy most sublime Majesty, through Thy most beauteous Beauty, through Thy most mighty Greatness, through Thy most luminous Light, through Thy most vast Mercy, through Thy most perfect Words, through Thy most great Names, through Thy most mighty Power, through Thy most efficacious Will, through Thy most penetrating Knowledge, through Thy most extensive Power, through Thy most pleasing Word, through Thy most beloved and impregnable Causes, through Thy most noble Honor, through Thy most enduring Sovereignty, through Thy most glorious Dominion, through Thy most exalted Loftiness, and through what Thou art of Thy grace, Thy generosity, Thy bounty, and Thy kindness.
For all are Thy servants and in Thy grasp. The dwellers of Thy heaven and earth glorify Thee, and those in the kingdom of Thy Command and Creation prostrate themselves before Thee. Who is able to worship Thee as befitteth Thy worship, or to know Thee as befitteth Thy knowledge? Verily, what Thou createst by Thy Command, Thou bringest forth from nothing by Thy power and sustainest without means by Thy strength. I testify, and all things testify, that all are Thy servants, Thy worshippers, Thy supplicants, Thy rememberers, Thy thankful ones, Thy submissive ones, and Thy humble ones, for Thou hast created them, sustained them, caused them to die, given them life, and ordained for them their paths, according to what is possible for them within the bounds of Thy power. Otherwise, how could that which Thou dost merit manifest itself in creation, and how could it be realized in invention? This is that which no heart hath encompassed in knowledge from the beginning of thought, nor can the essence of those possessed of insight and vision bear witness unto it.
Glorified art Thou, O my God! Thy power hath risen to such heights that all things fall short of attaining unto it. Thy grandeur hath been exalted to such a degree that all existence is bewildered before it. Thy sovereignty hath been elevated to such heights that all affairs submit to Thy will. Thy will hath prevailed over whatsoever Thou hast desired with such supremacy that all Thy creation must needs bow before it, through what Thou hast ordained therein of the expressions of Thy Command and the wonders of Thy wisdom.
Glorified art Thou, O my God! I shall glorify Thee above all that the glorifiers have glorified, sanctify Thee beyond all that the sanctifiers have sanctified, unite Thee beyond all that the uniters have united, and magnify Thee beyond all that the magnifiers have magnified, and exalt Thee beyond all that the exalters have exalted. For the highest that my heart can comprehend is but a creation with Thee—how then can I know Thee through it? And the utmost that my being can witness is but a trace of what Thou hast established out of nothing by Thy power—how then can I draw evidence thereby unto Thee?
Glorified art Thou! There is no knowledge save for him who knoweth Thee and serveth Thee and feareth Thy justice and hopeth for Thy grace and is exalted through the exaltation of Thy Cause. For there is no glory except in Thy love and good-pleasure and obedience and fear of Thee, and in detachment unto Thee and abiding beneath the shade of Thy gracious favors and the expressions of Thy Command.
Praise be to Thee, O my God, for that Thou hast made me to know Thine own Self, and hast given me to drink from the rivers of Thy paradise through Thy signs, Thy words, Thine attributes, and Thy manifestations. Thine is the Most Exalted Loftiness, according to that which Thou dost deserve, and Thine is the Most Glorious Sublimity, according to that which Thou lovest to bear witness unto Thy creation. By Thy might! All Thy creatures are, in Thy sight, even as the day whereon Thou didst create them; their existence addeth nothing unto Thy dominion, neither doth their absence diminish aught from Thy dominion. Nay, honour belongeth to Thy loved ones through that they have proclaimed Thy unity, have known Thee, have obeyed Thee, and have hoped in Thee.
Therefore do I cause Thee—and all Thy creatures—to bear witness that every object of worship beside Thee is in the Fire. In truth none is worthy of worship save Thee alone; there is none other God but Thee. I have not worshipped Thee with the worship that is Thy due, nor known Thee with the knowledge that is Thy due, nor remembered Thee with the remembrance befitting Thy Self-Subsisting Being, nor praised Thee with the praise worthy of Thy singleness, nor thanked Thee with the thanksgiving due unto Thy Self-Sufficiency. All is from Thee, and by Thee, and unto Thee. Thou alone art God; there is none other God but Thee.
Thou hast made Thyself known through the revelation of that which Thou hast ascribed unto Thine own Self; and thus have those who seek to know been enabled to know, in their firstness and their lastness, their outwardness and their inwardness, their loftiness and their sublimity, their exaltation and their unapproachableness. And those who are veiled have remained veiled in that which they are, after that Thy proof hath been made complete against them, and Thy favours and Thy bounties have been perfected within them and for them. Glorified art Thou and exalted above all! Glorified art Thou and sanctified beyond all! Glorified art Thou and magnified above all! Glorified art Thou and praised above all!
All Thy servants are in Thy grasp, that they may know Thee according to the station wherein Thou hast revealed Thyself unto them, and may prostrate themselves before Thee for that which Thou hast bestowed, through what Thou hast made known of Thy religion. Yet all are in a veil save such as have known Thee and believed in Thy signs; for in this lieth the spirit of true reality, and herein is the loftiness of recognition.
Glorified art Thou: there is none other God but Thee. From everlasting Thou dost uplift whom Thou willest by Thy exaltation, and enrich whom Thou willest by Thy bounty, and aid whom Thou willest by Thy might, and send down the wondrous traces of Thy mercy upon the denizens of the heaven of Thy obedience. Thine is the glory, O Possessor of munificence, and Thine is the praise, O Possessor of justice. Thou givest life and Thou causest death; then Thou causest death and Thou givest life; and Thou art the Living Who dieth not. Within Thy grasp is the dominion of all things; Thou createst whatsoever Thou willest by Thy command. Verily Thou hast ever been powerful over all things.
