In the Name of God, the Most Unapproachable, the Most Holy
O my God! I beseech Thee by Thyself—for nothing can be compared to Thy justice, nor is there any equal to Thee, nor any likeness, nor companion, nor similitude—and I call to witness that which Thou hast caused me to witness, and all things bear witness, that Thou art God, there is no God but Thee, alone with no partner. Thine is the kingdom and the dominion, Thine is might and omnipotence, Thine is power and divinity, Thine is strength and majesty. Thou hast ever been one God, single, unique, eternal, self-subsisting. Thou hast taken neither consort nor son, nor hast Thou manifested this through any of Thy creation, and Thou hast ordained all things by Thy power.
Thou hast fashioned all things according to Thy will. Ever do the manifestations through which Thy loved ones draw nigh unto Thee change, through the revelation of one Book and the withdrawal of another, save that whereby Thou dost describe Thyself—the exaltation of Thy praise, the transcendence of Thy sanctification, the elevation of Thy oneness, the inaccessibility of Thy glorification, and the independence of Thy grandeur. Therefore I beseech Thee, O my God, by the letters which in every Revelation Thou hast clothed with the garment of Thy love and authority, and which Thou shalt attire in every concealment with the robe of Thy might and sovereignty—from the lights of Muhammad and the manifestations of His countenance, since these spirits have ever prostrated themselves before Thy throne and these hearts have ever been enraptured by Thy love. Thou dost manifest them in every age as Thou pleasest and conceal them in every cycle as Thou willest, for these are the signs that prove Thy oneness. None is seen in them save Thee, and if any other is seen therein, it changes when it changes and is transformed when it is transformed.
I beseech Thee therefore by that which has ever dwelt beneath Thy shadow and goes not forth from Thee to another and points to none save Thee. I remember Thee not through mention of what Thou hast created, for that refers only to the time when Thou dost manifest in a new creation. Rather do I call upon Thee through that which has ever indicated Thee and made known what befits Thee of the exaltation of Thy majesty and the transcendence of Thy grandeur, that thereby all Thy creation may turn toward that prayer in the infinite seas and fathomless oceans for which Thou hast set no limit. For Thou hast ever been God, there is no God but Thee, alone with no partner.
In Thy grasp lies the kingdom of all things and in Thy right hand the destinies of all things. Thou choosest from Thy creation whom Thou pleasest, for in every Revelation there hath been none chosen in Thy knowledge nor approved in Thy Book save whom Thou hadst chosen before and approved before, through the name of Thy loved one and Thy friend, the manifestations of Thy countenance and the dawning-places of the sun of Thy essence. All names rest therein, attesting that Thou art God, there is no God but Thee, possessed of the most excellent similitude and the most beauteous names. In Thy right hand lies authority from first to last, and in Thy dominion from the highest heaven to the lowest depth. No command is there save from Thee, and unto Thee is the ultimate return and end.
