In the Name of the Most High, the Most Great
Glorified be He Who hath sent down the Command in this time according to an established decree. That which was detailed unto Us hath indeed been sent down today, and We are witnesses unto all. Verily in the morning We sent down an epistle unto him who previously confirmed thy Lord’s Cause, saying: Stand firm in that land and reform the deeds of those who spread corruption therein while claiming “We are the reformers.”
As for what My friend Yahya desired—and thou art all people—God knoweth that I would love that, were God to will it and permit Me. But God doeth what He willeth by His command, and there is no God but He, the All-Powerful, the Mighty. Say: Fear ye God and despair not of God’s grace, and make these verses the measure, then learn the Qur’an, and place your trust in God that ye may obtain mercy.
And regarding this man’s matter, I beseech God of His grace to make firm his heart when He shows him. Say: O Yahya, recite unto him what God hath permitted thee and kindle him with thy Lord’s fire, and fear not, for truly the Messengers fear not before Me. But fear God lest thou cause him temptation by speaking of these things. And if thou seest no good in him, turn away from him and trust in God and say:
“God sufficeth me, there is no God but He; in Him do I trust and in Him let the believers place their trust.”
Say unto him who came and his companion: Trust ye in God and speak not of any matter, for the people were sanctified.
