O my God! Grant me perfect detachment unto Thee and strengthen me with the light of joy in Thy presence. Draw me through Thy holy fragrances unto Thee until Thy light burns away the veils of love, for the servant hath no veil between him and Thee save love itself. Let me attain unto the sources of grandeur and recline upon the couches, and let me openly call upon Thee among those near unto Thee, saying that Thou, O my God, art the solace of the eyes of them that are detached, and that Thou, O my God, art the Beloved of them that know Thee, and that Thou, O my God, art the Ultimate Goal of them that are lowly, and that Thou, O my God, art the God of all worlds. There is no God but Thee, alone with no partner. By Thy glory, O my Lord, I shall not forget Thy favors at any time as Thou callest me secretly in my innermost heart and openly in my outer being, lest I neglect to remember Thee even less than anything, or be veiled in aught from meeting with Thee.

If I say “Thou art Thou” then likeness hath imitated likeness, and this is sin upon sin from me. And if I say “No, no” then signs have imitated signs, and this is sin above sin from me. I know not how to call upon Thee or remember Thee, for whenever I remember Thee among the congregation, the limit of contingent being frightens me in my heart, and whenever I worship Thee in solitude, the ultimate bound of creation rebukes me openly, saying that the servant can never know Thee and Thou canst not be described by him. Thou canst never be worshipped as Thou deserves to be worshipped, and none knoweth how Thou art except Thee alone. There is no God but Thee.

O my God! My self is sin, my remembrance is sin, my existence is sin, and my seeking forgiveness is sin. If I flee from one sin I enter into another sin. Glory be unto Thee! Glory be unto Thee! My whole being is sin upon sin above all sin. Were it not for Thy generosity I would not have been remembered, were it not for Thy mercy I would not have existed, were it not for Thy decree I would not have been forgiven, and were it not for Thy mystery I would not have been shown mercy.

O my God! Thou knowest my station and witnesseth my secret heart. If I desire to obey Thee and complete Thy blessing, I have entered into denial and abasement from Thy heedless servants who are kept from Thy justice and veiled from Thy face. I know not how to walk among the people. If I tell no one of Thy blessing, Thy justice frightens me saying that God did not honor thee with this blessing except that thou shouldst manifest it among His servants. And if I follow the call of Thy secret and convey Thy laws and recite Thy verses, trials appear among the people in such wise that some men are brought nigh unto destruction. And at that moment I remember the decree of Thy Book that persecution is worse than killing.

So I seek Thy forgiveness and call upon Thee to cause Thy believing servants to enter the fortress of Thy protection and power and preservation and grandeur. Guard them from the evil of men and what Satan whispers in the breasts of the believers. Send down upon them the angels of the heavens and earth to preserve them by Thy leave and guard them by Thy command and strengthen them through Thy might and honor them through Thy grace and support them through Thy inspiration and deliver them from Thy retribution through Thy mercy.

O my God! Thou art sufficient against everyone but none sufficeth against Thee. Verily Thou hast power over all things but all are powerless over anything. Verily Thou knowest all things but all are ignorant of all things. Nothing in the heavens or earth is too great for Thee, nothing escapes Thy knowledge, and nothing is beyond Thy power. I speak and Thou knowest my intention. I commit my affair unto God. Verily God seeth His servants.
